For years it was used mainly for bulk wine and rosé, but old bush vines grown at altitude, many over 80 years old, are now producing serious reds. Bobal keeps good natural acidity and is deeply colored and rich in anthocyanins, giving wines of dark cherry, blueberry, violet and herbs, with firm but fine tannins. It also makes some of Spain's best rosados.
