The Land
The i Clivi “San Pietro” Friulano hails from the Gramogliano Hills, situated in the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali region, near the Slovenian border. This vineyard site, located in Corno di Rosazzo in the Province of Udine, is rooted in the ancient marl and sandstone flysch soils of Eocene origin. The 70-year-old vines draw deep from this unique terroir, which is further blessed by a climate influenced by its proximity to both the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding mountains.
The Wine
This 100% Friulano, formerly known as Tocai Friulano, is a finely tuned expression of the variety. The wine greets the palate with slightly aromatic notes, a delicate bouquet of stone fruit, fine herbs, and a nutty, almost almond-like finish. Its vibrant acidity is balanced by the pronounced minerality typical of the region, resulting in a harmonious and refreshing wine. The vinification process, focused on purity, involves gentle pressing of whole grapes to extract only the cleanest must, followed by fermentation and six months of maturation on lees in stainless steel, contributing to its refined structure and clarity. This wine is an incredible value for $22!
