Its signature grapes are Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Sauvignon Blanc is not on that list, which is part of what makes White Ferrari unusual. The valley's long, gentle growing season, with warm summers and cool evenings, keeps acidity intact in aromatic whites. The Marigny draws on three sites for this Willamette Valley white wine: the Pinot Gris comes from a vineyard certified organic by Oregon Tilth, and the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay come from two vineyards farmed organically without certification.

The Wine

The Marigny White Ferrari 2024 is mostly Sauvignon Blanc made with a red-wine technique. The Sauvignon Blanc spends 14 days under carbonic maceration in stainless steel, then is pressed into older, neutral French oak, where it completes malolactic fermentation. Sulfur goes in only after malo. A blend of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, 10 percent of the total, is racked to steel two weeks before bottling with no further sulfur. The producer's lab numbers show total SO2 of 21 mg/L and 0.2 g/L residual sugar, so the wine is fully dry. Carbonic maceration mutes Sauvignon Blanc's green, grassy side and pushes it toward tropical fruit. Expect pineapple, passion fruit, and lime with a perfumed lift and a rounded middle from the neutral wood. Oregon's 2024 heat spikes in July and September did no damage, and a dry autumn let growers pick at will.

The People

The Marigny began in 2018 as a sister label to St. Reginald Parish, co-created by winemaker Andy Young with Adam Shearer and Benji Wagner. St. Reginald Parish takes the more serious, Burgundy-minded route; The Marigny is the playful side of the house, with carbonic reds, direct-press whites, piquette, pet-nat, and names like White Ferrari. The fun stops at the label. At several sites near North Plains, the team runs the organic program itself, with diverse cover crops and no synthetic inputs, and the vineyards are tended by a crew small enough to count on your fingers. Each fall, Young and maybe one other person process the whole year's fruit with minimal additions. Their stated belief is simple: good wine should not wait for a special occasion.

Food Pairing

White Ferrari has the tropical perfume and acidity to handle spice. A Thai green curry with chicken and eggplant works because the fruit cools the chili and the acidity cuts through the coconut milk. Fresh Vietnamese salad rolls with shrimp, mint, and peanut dipping sauce let the wine's lift play against the herbs. A roasted delicata squash grain bowl with farro, kale, and tahini dressing matches the rounded texture from the neutral oak. Or make pork larb with lime, fish sauce, and toasted rice. Pour it at 45 to 55°F; this is the bottle for takeout night when nobody wants to cook.
