The Land:
Set in the iconic Bussia cru of Monforte d’Alba, the Poderi Aldo Conterno estate thrives in the heart of the Barolo region. At elevations of 350 to 400 meters, the vineyards benefit from ideal southern and southwestern exposures, ensuring balanced sunlight for the Nebbiolo grapes. The soils—rich in clayey marls, limestone, and sandy layers—impart both structure and finesse to the wine. With a focus on low yields, the estate ensures that each vine produces intensely concentrated fruit. The unique terroir of Bussia is reflected in every bottle, offering a precise expression of the land and climate.

The Wine:
Il Favot 2020 is an elegant, youthful expression of Nebbiolo, sourced from the estate’s younger vines. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-October and undergo vinification in stainless steel, with skin maceration lasting 8 to 10 days. Fermentation temperatures range from 24 to 26°C, allowing the wine to extract rich flavors without losing its inherent freshness. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in small oak barrels for several months, which adds a touch of spice and softens the tannins without overwhelming the purity of the fruit. The result is a Nebbiolo that shows bright red cherry, rose petal, and hints of licorice, balanced by firm yet approachable tannins. Its vibrant acidity and long finish make it approachable in its youth, though it holds potential for further aging.

The People:
The Conterno family has been shaping the future of Barolo for generations, and today the estate is overseen by Aldo’s sons, Franco, Stefano, and Giacomo. Following in their father’s footsteps, they adhere to the same principles of meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking, always respecting the natural rhythms of the land. Their commitment to hand-harvesting, low yields, and minimal intervention winemaking ensures that Il Favot reflects the Nebbiolo grape’s purity and potential, as well as the family's dedication to preserving the legacy of their estate.

Piedmont, framed by the Alps in northwestern Italy, is a land of rolling hills and carefully cultivated vineyards. The continental climate, with its cold winters and warm summers, creates prime conditions for the Nebbiolo grape, which dominates much of the region's red wine production. The Langhe area is home to Barolo and Barbaresco, structured red wines known for their complex aromas, firm tannins, and aging potential. While Nebbiolo is the dominant grape of Piedmont, the region also makes interesting white wines like those from Arneis and Timorasso. Alto Piemonte is a separate region in the north with its own distinctive expressions of Nebbiolo, alongside other red grape varietals.

Piedmont

Nebbiolo, a prestigious grape from Italy's Piedmont region, is celebrated for its profound truffle and rose aromas, complex flavors, and ability to age gracefully thanks to strong acidity and tannins, producing the renowned Barolo and Barbaresco wines.
