  • Land: Moorilla Estate's 'Praxis' Pinot Noir 2019 hails from the St Matthias Vineyard in Tasmania, located on the west bank of kanamaluka / River Tamar. This vineyard is characterized by a mix of ancient volcanic and newer clay soils, creating a fertile ground for grape growing. Positioned fifteen kilometers north of Launceston, the vineyard's east-facing slope and close proximity to the river protect the vines from frost while ensuring a prolonged and cool ripening period, essential for developing the balanced acid and flavor profile typical of quality Pinot Noir.
  • Wine: The 2019 'Praxis' Pinot Noir showcases the capabilities of its Tasmanian terroir under the careful watch of winemaker Conor van der Reest. The wine is produced with a substantial inclusion of whole bunches (35%), fermented with native yeasts, and aged in 500L oak puncheons, of which 16% are new. This method contributes to the wine's structured yet vibrant profile, featuring a spectrum of aromas from sour cherry to bush tomato and a palate that balances bright fruit with soft tannins.
  • People: Conor van der Reest, the winemaker behind this Pinot Noir, focuses on expressing the distinct characteristics of the St Matthias vineyard through meticulous vineyard management and innovative winemaking techniques. His approach results in wines that not only reflect the quality of the estate but also provide excellent value, making 'Praxis' a standout example of premium yet accessible Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
