The Land
Clos de la Roche is a famed Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, perched on a gentle slope of stony limestone and clay soils that impart both depth and structure to Pinot Noir. Although better known for their Chambolle-Musigny vines, Anne and Hervé Sigaut began working this singular site in 2020, bringing the same meticulous, sustainable vineyard care they practice at home: minimal herbicide use, attentive canopy management, and a strong focus on vine health. The vineyard’s cooler climate and well-draining soils enable extended ripening while preserving vibrant acidity—resulting in a structured yet harmonious expression of Pinot Noir.

The Wine
In line with their ethos for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines, the Sigauts handle Clos de la Roche with a deft touch. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted, then partially or fully destemmed, depending on the vintage conditions. A gentle fermentation follows, allowing indigenous yeasts to guide the process, while pump-overs and punch-downs are kept moderate to preserve Pinot Noir’s finesse. The wine matures for over a year in French oak barrels, with the use of new oak deliberately restrained (typically around 25% or less). The 2022 release is deeply fragrant and finely structured, exhibiting the hallmark power of this Grand Cru balanced by the Sigauts’ hallmark precision and grace.

The People
Anne and Hervé Sigaut continue a lineage of four generations in Chambolle-Musigny, cultivating roughly seven hectares of vines throughout the appellation. Anne focuses on nurturing the vineyards—eschewing herbicides in favor of organic methods—while Hervé oversees the cellar, maintaining a gentle approach that preserves Pinot Noir’s inherent refinement. United by a commitment to tradition and terroir, they have earned a reputation for wines that beautifully capture Chambolle’s trademark elegance, inviting Burgundy lovers to experience Pinot Noir at its most captivating.

Burgundy, in eastern France, encompasses several subregions, but it is the Côte d'Or that is home to many of the world's most expensive and revered wines. The region, primarily a single east-facing slope, has mixed limestone soils that vary dramatically from village to village and even vineyard to vineyard. White wines, crafted from Chardonnay, range from rich and opulent to lean and intensely mineral, while Pinot Noir produces silky, perfumed red wines of exceptional finesse and complexity. Centuries of winemaking tradition have resulted in every plot being meticulously recognized and scrutinized, making the Côte d'Or a true capital of terroir.

Burgundy - Cote d'Or

Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned, notoriously difficult-to-grow, low-yielding grape that finds its ancestral home in Burgundy, France, where it produces some of the world's most elegant and nuanced wines. While Burgundy remains its spiritual heartland, Pinot Noir has since traveled the globe, finding success in other cooler climates, notably in California, Oregon, New Zealand, and Germany. This grape is a challenge for any grower, as it requires specific conditions to show its best, and yet the wines it produces are capable of such a captivating and singular character.
