The Land

This Bourgogne Passetoutgrains comes from Domaine Robert Chevillon, a storied estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. While technically a Bourgogne AOC, this wine is treated with the same care as their Premier Crus. The vines are old, around 45 years, and are planted in classic Burgundian clay and limestone soils. Chevillon farms using lutte raisonnée, a reasoned approach to viticulture, ensuring that the terroir of Burgundy shines through even in this more approachable bottling.

The Wine

The 2022 Passetoutgrains is a blend of approximately one-third Pinot Noir and two-thirds Gamay. It is made with the same meticulous attention to detail as the domaine's more prestigious wines. Expect a vibrant, fresh red fruit profile, with a lively acidity and a charming earthiness. The wine is fully destemmed, fermented slowly in stainless steel, and then aged in barrel. It is a wine that is designed to be a worthy introduction to the domaine and to the wines of Burgundy as a whole, offering both pleasure and a sense of place.

The People

Domaine Robert Chevillon is a family estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges, now run by the fifth generation, brothers Bertrand and Denis Chevillon, with their father Robert still active. They are known for their stunning collection of Premier Cru vineyards and their innate ability to carefully tend their vines. The Chevillon family has a long track record of producing exceptional wines, and they apply the same level of care and attention to detail to all of their bottlings, from their Bourgogne level wines to their top Premier Crus. They are, simply put, masters of Pinot Noir in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Burgundy, in eastern France, encompasses several subregions, but it is the Côte d'Or that is home to many of the world's most expensive and revered wines. The region, primarily a single east-facing slope, has mixed limestone soils that vary dramatically from village to village and even vineyard to vineyard. White wines, crafted from Chardonnay, range from rich and opulent to lean and intensely mineral, while Pinot Noir produces silky, perfumed red wines of exceptional finesse and complexity. Centuries of winemaking tradition have resulted in every plot being meticulously recognized and scrutinized, making the Côte d'Or a true capital of terroir.

Burgundy - Cote d'Or

A red wine grape most associated with Beaujolais, Gamay makes fresh, fruity red wines with berry and violet aromas. It is grown around the world outside of France where it is often a darker and less tannic cousin to Pinot Noir in cool climate regions such as Oregon and Victoria.
