The Land

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou "Madame de Beaucaillou" is from vineyards located in two Haut-Médoc villages, though the wine is grown and made by the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou team. The vineyards are planted on soils primarily consisting of gravel over clay and gravel subsoils. These soils, along with the influence of the nearby Gironde estuary, provide the perfect conditions to produce quality wines.

The Wine

"Madame de Beaucaillou" is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. This 2021 vintage, a blend of 71% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Petit Verdot, showcases the elegance and fruit-driven character that defines this label. The wine displays a deep ruby color and an alluring nose dominated by ripe red and black fruits, such as cherries, blackcurrants, and cassis, interwoven with subtle notes of violets, spice, and a touch of cedar. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins. Flavors of ripe fruit are complemented by notes of mocha, tobacco, and a touch of minerality. It is an approachable expression of Bordeaux, with a focus on pleasure and quality.

The People

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, a renowned Second Growth estate, is located in Saint-Julien, though this wine is grown outside of that appellation by the same team. They are known for their meticulous viticultural practices and a desire for sustainable winemaking, striving to produce wines that authentically express their terroir, whether it be their top sites or their second wines. "Madame de Beaucaillou" offers a glimpse into the estate's exceptional quality and provides an opportunity to experience the team's precision and style at a more accessible price point.

The Bordeaux wine region, an emblem of vinicultural prestige, is bisected by the Gironde Estuary into the Left and Right Banks, each celebrated for distinct styles shaped by their unique terroirs. The Left Bank is renowned for its structured, Cabernet Sauvignon-led blends, while the Right Bank favors the softer, Merlot-dominated wines. This region is also the birthplace of the luscious, sweet wines of Sauternes. Bordeaux's time-honored blend and winemaking techniques have inspired countless wine regions around the globe, setting a benchmark for the wine world.
