The Land
Château Montrose La Dame de Montrose is from the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation in the Médoc region (left bank) of Bordeaux, France. Grown on the estate's renowned vineyards, this wine benefits from the unique terroir of the region, characterized by gravelly soils overlaying a deep layer of clay and gravel. This terroir, combined with the influence of the Gironde estuary, imparts a distinctive minerality and structure to the wines.
The Wine
Made to the same rigorous standards as the First Wine, from grapes grown in the same vineyard, La Dame de Montrose is the estate’s second label, created in 1983 in tribute to Yvonne Charmolüe, who ran Château Montrose single-handedly from 1944 to 1960. Supple and silky Merlot generally predominates in this blend, but the 2019 consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (45%), Petit Verdot (4%), and Cabernet Franc (3%). The 2019 vintage, a highly acclaimed year in Bordeaux, is characterized by its deep ruby color. On the nose, it displays alluring aromas of ripe black fruits, such as cassis and blackberry, interwoven with elegant oak notes (baking spice & vanilla), reflecting the influence of 12 months of aging in 30% new French oak barrels. The palate is full and delicious with great concentration, upheld by complex and silky tannins. This 2019 vintage is considered particularly exceptional, showcasing a remarkable resemblance to the Grand Vin, with pronounced red fruit aromas and a refined elegance.
The Winery
Château Montrose, a renowned First Growth estate in Saint-Estèphe, has a long history of producing exceptional wines. Known for their commitment to sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking, the estate strives to produce wines that authentically reflect the terroir of their vineyards. La Dame de Montrose, the second wine of Château Montrose, offers a glimpse into the estate's exceptional quality and provides an opportunity to experience the elegance and power of Saint-Estèphe at a more accessible price point.

The Left Bank is renowned for its structured, Cabernet Sauvignon-led blends, while the Right Bank favors the softer, Merlot-dominated wines. This region is also the birthplace of the luscious, sweet wines of Sauternes.
