Côtes du Marmandais, a lesser-known appellation just southeast of Bordeaux, is shaped by a mix of gravel, clay, and limestone soils. The region sits at the meeting point of Atlantic and Mediterranean influences, giving its wines both freshness and ripeness. Here, native varieties like Abouriou thrive alongside classic Bordeaux grapes, resulting in wines with structure, energy, and a distinct sense of place.
The Wine:
A blend of Abouriou, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, Le Vin est Une Fête is all about vibrancy and drinkability. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral vessels, it’s fresh, supple, and fruit-driven, with dark berries, peppery spice, and a hint of earth. The Abouriou brings lively acidity and fine-grained tannins, while Merlot and Cabernet Franc add depth and aromatic lift. This is a red built for versatility—equally enjoyable with a slight chill or at cellar temperature.
The People:
Elian Da Ros left a promising career in Alsace to return to his family’s vineyards in Marmandais, determined to prove the region’s potential. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming here, he works with low-intervention methods to craft wines that reflect the land’s character rather than conform to market trends. His approach—thoughtful, precise, and unpretentious—results in wines that are both authentic and deeply pleasurable to drink.
