The Land

Atoma is a Blanc de Blancs Champagne sourced exclusively from Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Cramant, Oger, Oiry, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. These chalk-rich slopes are among the most prized terroirs in Champagne, offering excellent drainage, deep root penetration, and a natural freshness in the fruit. Each site contributes to the layered profile of this cuvée, from the flinty elegance of Le Mesnil to the broader shoulders of Oger. All fruit is hand-harvested from old vines farmed with deep respect for soil health and biodiversity.

The Wine

This 100% Chardonnay is crafted as a perpetual cuvée, started in 2020 and refreshed each year with equal parts of reserve wine (vinified in oak barrels, some from the Montagne de Reims) and current vintage wine aged in tank. Complete malolactic fermentation and extended lees aging (20–32 months) result in a Champagne that balances precision with creaminess. Disgorged at least 60 days before release and finished with under 5 g/L of sugar, Atoma shows ripe citrus, green apple, and poached pear layered with a toasty creaminess and nice richer texture. It’s bottled unfined and unfiltered, and riddled manually on a Gero palette.

The People

Agrapart et Fils was founded in 1894 in Avize by Arthur Agrapart and remained a family-run domaine for generations. In the early 2000s, brothers Pascal and Fabrice Agrapart amicably decided to split the estate, recognizing they had different visions for its future. Pascal, who had long championed single-vineyard, terroir-driven Champagnes, established Domaine Pascal Agrapart, focusing on barrel vinification and lieu-dit expressions. The remaining family vineyards—still among the best in Avize—continued under the Agrapart & Fils label, led by Fabrice. Today, he is joined by his partners Emmanuel and Johanna, with the next generation represented by his daughter Prunelle. Together, they continue to guide Agrapart & Fils as a grower-led house focused on Grand Cru fruit, perpetual blending, and sustainable practices.

Champagne is the northernmost major wine region in France, defined by its cool climate, chalky soils, and centuries-old tradition of sparkling wine production. Centered around the towns of Reims and Épernay, the region is divided into key subzones like the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs, each favoring different grapes—Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay respectively. The region’s signature chalk and limestone soils provide excellent drainage and impart a distinctive mineral character to the wines. While méthode champenoise was refined here in the 17th century, Champagne’s global prestige grew through the 19th and 20th centuries, cementing its role as the benchmark for sparkling wine worldwide.

Champagne

Chardonnay, one of the world's most versatile and beloved white grape varieties, showcases a remarkable spectrum of styles, from the lean, mineral-driven expressions of Chablis in France to the rich, buttery, and oak-aged versions from California's Napa Valley. Its adaptability extends to cooler climates such as Burgundy, where it achieves elegance and complexity, and to regions like Australia's Yarra Valley, known for producing vibrant and fruit-forward renditions. This grape's ability to reflect its terroir, coupled with winemaking techniques, results in a wide array of profiles, including unoaked, crisp varieties with apple and citrus notes, to full-bodied wines with tropical fruit flavors and creamy textures.
