The Land

In the sun-warmed southern Pfalz, where vineyards stretch toward the sheltering Haardt Mountains, Müller-Ruprecht cultivates Pinot Noir in soils of loess, limestone, and clay. The climate here is generous—dry, with long days of ripening light, tempered by cool nights that preserve freshness. 2024 brought a long, even growing season, allowing fruit to mature slowly and retain its delicate balance. The result is a rosé that speaks of its place: bright yet grounded, shaped by the land’s quiet generosity.

The Wine

Germany might not be the first country you associate rosé with but you certainly should start! This is a rosé of intention and elegance, not made from leftovers but from purpose-picked Pinot Noir. The grapes are pressed gently to extract only the purest juice, it glows pale pink in the glass. Aromatics lean toward red currant, alpine strawberry, and subtle stone fruit, with a cool mineral note threading through. The palate is taut and fresh, guided by crisp acidity. It’s a wine that has everything you want in a refreshing, crisp bottle of dry rosé.

The People

At the heart of Müller-Ruprecht today are Sabine and Philipp, a young couple who have recently taken the reins of the family estate. With deep respect for tradition and a fresh, attentive energy, they approach winemaking with both care and clarity. Their work in the vineyard is hands-on, their cellar practices low-intervention, and their focus unwavering: to express their corner of the Pfalz with honesty and precision.

Baden, Germany's warmest and southernmost wine region, is distinctly different from its northern counterparts. Benefiting from a near-Mediterranean climate, Baden is known for its ripe, full-bodied wines, particularly Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder). The Kaiserstuhl, a volcanic range within Baden, is a key area, known for its rich, fertile soils that contribute to the wines' concentration and power. While Riesling is grown, Baden's focus is more on these Burgundian varieties, producing wines that are richer, rounder, and often more approachable in their youth than classic examples from cooler German regions. Baden offers a unique and sun-drenched expression of German wine, showcasing a different facet of the country's viticultural landscape.
