The Land

The Barolo del Comune di La Morra is sourced from the family's vineyards within the commune of La Morra, in Barolo. The vines, grown on soils described as "loamy-clay" and low in organic matter, are located at elevations between 320 and 480 meters above sea level. The estate emphasizes the key role that soil plays in viticulture, and views the character of the wines as directly related to the unique terroir of this area.

The Wine

This Barolo is a pure expression of Nebbiolo from La Morra. It's made using only indigenous yeasts and sees a maceration with the skins that is followed by the old technique of “steccatura,” in which oak staves are manually inserted in the wooden vats to keep the skins submerged for a period of months after fermentation has finished. The wine is aged in a combination of large oak vats and smaller barrels, but with a clear focus on diminishing the influence of new oak. It is bottled unfiltered. The resulting wine offers a complex array of aromas, showcasing the typicity of the La Morra commune. Expect a focused structure, with fine tannins, and a long, layered finish with a core of red fruit and earth. The wine is intended to show a clear expression of its land of origin.

The People

Azienda Agricola Enzo Boglietti is a family-run winery deeply rooted in the traditions of Barolo. The estate was created in 1991 when Enzo, with the help of friends like Roberto Voerzio and Bartolo Mascarello, took the advice to stop selling his grapes and start bottling on his own, after a milk crisis made that option unsustainable. Enzo, along with his daughter Linda and son Matteo, are committed to producing high-quality wines that reflect the character of their vineyards. They follow the best principles of organic farming, and are proud to have received official certification. The family is clearly focused on allowing the terroirs of their vineyards to shine through in the wines they produce.
