The Land

The Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a communal bottling drawing from multiple parcels across La Morra, including Fossati, Case Nere, and Boiolo. La Morra is the largest commune in the Barolo DOCG by planted area and the one most associated with the more perfumed, aromatic expression of Nebbiolo. The Tortonian-era calcareous marl produces wines with rounder tannins and earlier accessibility than the Serravalian soils of Castiglione Falletto or Serralunga. Elevation across these parcels ranges from 300 to 420 meters, with south and southeast exposures throughout. The communal bottling functions as a snapshot of La Morra in a given vintage.

The Wine

100% Nebbiolo from blended La Morra parcels. Steccatura post-fermentation skin contact, unfiltered at bottling. The 2021 vintage in Barolo was cooler and fresher than the preceding run of hot years, producing wines with more aromatic precision and higher natural acidity than 2016 through 2020. For La Morra, where the tendency is already toward finesse rather than power, 2021 was a particularly good fit: violet, fresh cherry, dried rose, camphor, and anise, with structured but well-integrated tannins and genuine length. A vintage that rewards patience in the bottle more than the warmer years preceding it.

The People

Enzo Boglietti's arc runs through every bottle in the lineup. Founded in 1991 in the modernist moment, making wines for international palates alongside neighbor Roberto Voerzio: barriques, short macerations, early-drinking structure. Over the following two decades, as his understanding of the La Morra vineyards deepened, he moved methodically toward more traditional winemaking. The large-format casks replaced the barriques, the steccatura technique replaced aggressive extraction, and filtration at bottling was eliminated. The communal La Morra is where all of those parcels merge into a single expression of the place. The traditional direction of the winery is fully legible here.

Food Pairing

Roasted chicken with white truffles, lamb shoulder braised with herbs and wine, tagliatelle with a long-cooked meat ragu, or aged Parmigiano and cured meats. The freshness of the 2021 vintage makes this more food-flexible than a warmer year.

Piedmont, framed by the Alps in northwestern Italy, is a land of rolling hills and carefully cultivated vineyards. The continental climate, with its cold winters and warm summers, creates prime conditions for the Nebbiolo grape, which dominates much of the region's red wine production. The Langhe area is home to Barolo and Barbaresco, structured red wines known for their complex aromas, firm tannins, and aging potential. While Nebbiolo is the dominant grape of Piedmont, the region also makes interesting white wines like those from Arneis and Timorasso. Alto Piemonte is a separate region in the north with its own distinctive expressions of Nebbiolo, alongside other red grape varietals.

Italy - Piedmont

Nebbiolo, a prestigious grape from Italy's Piedmont region, is celebrated for its profound truffle and rose aromas, complex flavors, and ability to age gracefully thanks to strong acidity and tannins, producing the renowned Barolo and Barbaresco wines.
