The Land
The Guimaro Ribeira Sacra Blanco 2023 originates from the dramatic, terraced vineyards of Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, Spain. Cultivated since Roman times, these vineyards are perched on steep slopes along the Sil river, with the fruit for this wine coming from plots in and around Amandi, Ribeira Sacra’s most prized subzone. The vines are rooted in a complex mix of slate, granite, and sandy soils, all contributing to the unique character of the wines from this heroic viticultural landscape.
The Wine
This 100% Godello is crafted to showcase the fresh, aromatic potential of white wines from Ribeira Sacra. Made from a selection of plots, the wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks. Expect a vibrant white wine with aromatic complexity, reflecting the Godello grape and the mineral-rich terroir of Ribeira Sacra. It offers a rich texture alongside crisp acidity and pronounced minerality, and exhibits a clean expression of fruit.
The People
Guimaro, meaning "rebel" in Gallego, is the embodiment of Pedro Rodríguez and his family's spirited approach to winemaking in Ribeira Sacra. Descended from generations of winegrowers in Amandi, Pedro, along with his parents Manolo and Carmen, works the steep slopes with a deep respect for tradition. Named "Guimaro" in honor of the region's history of rural Galician independence, the family transitioned from selling wine in bulk to estate bottling in the early 1990s with the help of enologist Luis Buitrón. Guimaro stands as a representation of the revival of Ribeira Sacra, driven by a dedication to quality, local varieties, and the unique terroir of this breathtaking region.
