The Land
The Bisson Glera Vino Frizzante Trevigiani 2022 originates from the elite Valdobbiadene district of the Veneto region, renowned for its exceptional Prosecco. Here, the vineyards are situated on stunningly steep hillsides, with sandy and clay-rich soils that offer excellent drainage. The unique microclimate, influenced by the Dolomite Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, provides warm days and cool nights, ideal for the slow ripening of the Glera grape. This environment imparts a distinctive freshness and vibrant character to the wine.
The Wine
Crafted from 100% Glera, this refreshing sparkling wine is a bone-dry delight with only 2 grams per liter of residual sugar, standing in stark contrast to many of its sweeter Prosecco counterparts. This wine is the result of a collaboration between Pierluigi Lugano and his good friend Eli Spagnol of Torre Zecchei. Fermented in stainless steel tanks with meticulous temperature regulation, the wine retains its delicate freshness and vivid character. Sealed with a crown cap, this method ensures the wine's effervescence and vibrant quality. Notably, since 2016, using a crown cap disqualifies the wine from being labeled as Prosecco, even though it proudly lists the Glera grape. The nose reveals an inviting bouquet of acacia honey, white flowers, crunchy green apples, Meyer lemon and tart nectarines. On the palate, the wine is crisp and refreshing, with a creamy texture from the fine bubbles, balanced by natural acidity and a subtle mineral underlay. The clean, bright finish is the perfect aperitif for summer!
The People
Pierluigi Lugano, a former sommelier turned innovative winemaker, brings his passion and expertise to Bisson. Working closely with Eli Spagnol, who manages a mere 30 hectares in Valdobbiadene, Lugano ensures that each bottle meets exacting specifications. The vineyards' hand-harvested grapes are a testament to the duo's commitment to quality. Lugano's minimal intervention philosophy and Spagnol's meticulous vineyard management combine to create a wine that is both expressive and true to its picturesque Venetian terroir.
