  • Historical Significance: Château d’Épiré, a jewel in the crown of Savennières, boasts a legacy as rich as the plot of a historical drama, with its architectural nod to the Petit Trianon of Versailles and a lineage of exquisite wines dating back to Roman times. Under the stewardship of Paul Bizard, the latest in a line of Bizards dating back to the 17th century, the estate continues to uphold its grand tradition.

  • Vineyard & Terroir: The Anjou Rouge 'Clos de la Cerisaie' hails from a vineyard that is not just a clos in name; despite some of its walls having succumbed to time, it remains a defined and cherished parcel. The vineyard benefits from southern and southeastern sun exposure, moderated by the nearby Loire River, with subsoils of sandstone and schist topped with a distinctive blue slatey schist that imparts nerve and firmness to the wine.

  • Grape Varieties: As of the 2020 vintage, the Anjou Rouge is crafted exclusively from young vines, following the decision to rejuvenate the vineyards. This shift marks a new chapter for the 'Clos de la Cerisaie,' promising to infuse the wine with youthful vigor and a fresh perspective.

  • Winemaking: Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, allowing for a pure expression of the fruit and terroir. The primary fermentation spans 15 days, accompanied by daily pumpovers to enhance extraction. Aging takes place in 30-hectoliter stainless steel tanks, preserving the wine's vibrant fruit character and ensuring it is bottled with its freshness intact in April, following an unfiltered and unfined philosophy.

  • Tasting Notes: The 2022 vintage of 'Clos de la Cerisaie' is a testament to the youthful vitality of its vines, offering a tapestry of flavors that hint at the wine's noble lineage. Expect a harmonious blend of juicy red fruits, underscored by a mineral backbone and a structure that promises graceful aging.

  • Pairings: This Anjou Rouge is a versatile companion to a wide array of dishes, from casual barbecues to more refined culinary creations. Its vibrant fruit profile and underlying complexity make it an excellent match for everything from charcuterie and cheese platters to hearty vegetable stews and grilled meats.

  • About the Producer: Château d’Épiré stands as a beacon of heritage and excellence in Savennières, with the Bizard family at its helm for centuries. The domaine's commitment to tradition, coupled with a forward-looking approach to viticulture, ensures that each bottle of 'Clos de la Cerisaie' is a reflection of its storied past and a bright future.

The Loire Valley, often referred to as the "Garden of France," is a revered wine region that stretches along the Loire River, producing an array of distinct wines, including the crisp, sea-breeze influenced Muscadet near the Atlantic coast, the versatile and expressive Chenin Blanc in regions like Vouvray and Anjou, the elegantly fragrant Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil, and the minerally complex Sauvignon Blanc-based Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé from its eastern vineyards. This is a reflection of the valley's varied terroir and climate, which together foster the creation of wines that are celebrated for their finesse, diversity, and food-friendliness.
