The Land
Eric Rodez is located there Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, a village traditionally celebrated for its Pinot Noir. However, Rodez's dedication to cultivating Chardonnay in this terroir has yielded remarkable results. The vineyards benefit from the region's unique microclimate and chalky soils, which impart a distinctive minerality and finesse to the wine.
The Wine
This non-vintage Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grapes, showcasing the elegance and purity of the variety. The wine undergoes vinification in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with a significant portion of the base wines aged in small oak barrels to enhance complexity. A portion of the wines does not undergo malolactic fermentation, preserving the wine's natural acidity and freshness. On the palate, it reveals a harmonious balance of citrus and white fruit flavors, complemented by subtle notes of brioche and a complex, textured, mineral-driven finish.
The People
Eric Rodez, a vigneron with deep roots in Ambonnay, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at esteemed Champagne houses, including Krug. His approach to winemaking is both traditional and innovative, emphasizing biodynamic practices and meticulous attention to detail. Rodez's philosophy centers on creating Champagnes that are true expressions of their terroir, achieved through thoughtful blending and a commitment to sustainable viticulture.
