The Land
Tucked into the picturesque hills of Graubünden, Switzerland, Gantenbein’s vineyards benefit from the unique alpine terroir. The cool climate of this region, moderated by warm winds from the Rhine Valley, creates a slow ripening process that is ideal for Pinot Noir. The vineyard’s steep slopes and well-draining soils, rich in limestone and gravel, give the grapes a refined minerality and vibrant acidity, lending the wine a precision that reflects the purity of its origins. Reminiscent of Burgundy but distinctly different!

The Wine
In the glass, its bright ruby color hints at the delicacy within. Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry unfold alongside subtle floral notes of rose and violet. As the wine opens, earthy nuances of forest floor, truffle, and a touch of smoky minerality emerge, adding depth to the bright fruit. On the palate, it is supple and graceful, with silky tannins and a lively acidity that give the wine a refined structure. Aged in French oak, the wine offers a gentle oak influence, enhancing the fruit’s purity without overpowering it. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lingering impression of elegance and finesse.

The People
Martha and Daniel Gantenbein, the visionary couple behind Gantenbein Winery, are known for their meticulous attention to detail and a deep-rooted passion for Pinot Noir. Their approach blends tradition with cutting-edge technology, from manual vineyard work to the use of gravity flow and precision vinification techniques in the cellar. Their philosophy is simple: let the vineyard speak through the wine, crafting a Pinot Noir that is both a reflection of their land and their pursuit of perfection.
