**Jérémy Arnaud Bourgogne Tonnerre Les Huées 2022**

**The Land:** Situated on the outskirts of Chablis in the northern reaches of Burgundy, Tonnerre’s vineyards rest on ancient Kimmeridgian limestone soils, rich in marine fossils that impart a distinctive minerality to the wine. The 2022 growing season was warm, balanced by cool evenings that preserved vibrant acidity, resulting in a Chardonnay that captures the essence of its unique terroir. The cool, continental climate of the region, combined with the fossil-rich chalky soils, creates a precise and expressive wine that tells the story of its origins.

The Wine:

On the nose, crisp green apple, juicy ripe citrus blossom, lemon curd and hints of wet stone mingle with subtle salinity, reflecting the limestone soils. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with a backbone of lively acidity that leads to a palate of white flowers, almond, and a luscious finish. This wine is delicious.

The People:

Raised in a winemaking family at Domaine La Marquise in Chablis, Jérémy Arnaud’s path to becoming a vigneron was not straightforward. Initially uncertain of his direction, he found his passion at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, where his love for viticulture blossomed. Despite his formal education in oenology, Jérémy is committed to breaking away from the conventions of “oenologists’ wines,” focusing instead on erasing practices that mask the origins of the wine or the typicality of a vintage. His hands-on experiences across various domaines and cooperatives throughout Burgundy have shaped his philosophy: minimal intervention, respect for the land, and an unyielding dedication to authenticity. Since establishing his domaine in 2017, Jérémy has expanded from 0.5 hectares to nearly 3, cultivating with a focus on expressing each vineyard’s unique character.

Chardonnay, one of the world's most versatile and beloved white grape varieties, showcases a remarkable spectrum of styles, from the lean, mineral-driven expressions of Chablis in France to the rich, buttery, and oak-aged versions from California's Napa Valley. Its adaptability extends to cooler climates such as Burgundy, where it achieves elegance and complexity, and to regions like Australia's Yarra Valley, known for producing vibrant and fruit-forward renditions. This grape's ability to reflect its terroir, coupled with winemaking techniques, results in a wide array of profiles, including unoaked, crisp varieties with apple and citrus notes, to full-bodied wines with tropical fruit flavors and creamy textures.
