The Land:

Sourced from the limestone plateaus and gravel terraces of Cahors in Southwest France, J&C Cahors 2022 reflects the essence of this rugged terroir. The warm, sunlit days and cool nights of Cahors create the ideal conditions for Malbec to develop intense flavors and vibrant acidity. The vineyards, rooted in a mix of clay-limestone, sandy & gravelly soils, are organically farmed, allowing the vines to thrive naturally. This unique terroir imparts a distinctive minerality and structure to the wine, highlighting the diverse soils and microclimates of the Cahors appellation.

The Wine:

The J&C Cahors is a fresh, vibrant expression of Malbec, crafted with a focus on purity and elegance. The grapes are carefully destemmed and undergo a natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, preserving the authentic character of the fruit. The wine is aged for six months in concrete tanks, a deliberate choice to maintain its freshness and aromatic intensity. Deep ruby in hue, the wine opens with aromas of black cherry, cassis, and wild berries, complemented by subtle notes of violet, herbs, and a hint of graphite. On the palate, it offers layers of juicy dark fruit, cocoa, and gentle spice, supported by firm yet polished tannins and a bright, lingering finish. The result is a balanced and lively wine that is a jovial expression of Malbec.

The People:

Jouves & Croisille is the creation of long-time friends Fabien Jouves and brothers Germain and Simon Croisille, who share a common vision for the future of Cahors. Both families have history in the region, farming about 30 hectares using organic and biodynamic practices. With their first vintages in 2006 and 2007, respectively, Fabien and Germain have dedicated themselves to crafting wines that express the true potential of Cahors. The trio's collaboration allows them to create something distinct from their family estates, using grapes from friends who farm with the same respect for nature.

Inspired more by the philosophies of Burgundy and the Northern Rhône than neighboring Bordeaux, the team focuses on showcasing the unique soil variations of Cahors, even choosing Burgundy bottles over traditional Bordeaux shapes. This modern approach, combined with their respect for Cahors’ heritage, positions Fabien, Germain, and Simon as the new faces of the appellation. Together, they are committed to demonstrating the true expression of Malbec—pure, unadulterated, and deeply connected to the land.
