The Land
This Pinot Noir hails from the Dhochsatt vineyards in the Pfalz, Germany. Sounds fancy, right? But the truth is, this spot used to be known for nothing more than onions and potatoes! Now, Lukas Hammelmann is showing what this windswept, cool area can do. The soils are a mix of sandstone, loess, and limestone, giving a unique character. The vines here are around 20 years old and up, and they're farmed organically, because Lukas believes the land knows best.
The Wine
Lukas Hammelmann Dhochsatt Pinot Noir is proof that great wines can come from unexpected places. It's a fresh and lively Pinot that shows off the unique character of his place. Expect bright red fruit like cherries and raspberries, with some earthy, savory hints – think forest floor rather than a ton of fruit. The People
Lukas Hammelmann is a winemaker who's not afraid to do his own thing. He grew up in a spot people said was no good for grapes, but he proved them wrong. He started his own estate in 2016 with only a few tiny parcels and has grown it from there. He is meticulous and committed in both the vineyard and the cellar, yet still humble and down-to-earth. He doesn't care about big estates and fancy stuff, just making honest, standout wines that taste like where they come from. He’s a serious talent with a sense of humor and his wines are a reflection of that.
