The Land:

Sourced from carefully selected vineyards across Sonoma County, this blend reflects the region’s diverse terroir. Gravelly loam soils and a warm, even growing season in 2022—marked by drought-driven low yields—produced fruit with deep concentration, vibrant aromatics, and balanced acidity.

The Wine:

A blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Friends Red is crafted for immediate enjoyment while maintaining depth and character. Aged for 12 months in small American oak barrels (25% new), it gains subtle toasty spice without overshadowing its fruit-forward core. Blackberry, cherry, and warm spice lead the nose, while smooth tannins frame flavors of cherry, plum, and vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a round, fruit-driven finish, it delivers richness and approachability in equal measure.

The People:

Pedroncelli, a family-owned winery since 1927, has spent nearly a century perfecting Sonoma County wines that are balanced, expressive, and made to be shared. Their commitment to sourcing high-quality fruit from neighboring vineyards ensures that Friends Red remains a seamless, drink-now expression of the region.

Sonoma County, located west of Napa Valley and stretching to the Pacific Ocean, is a large and diverse wine region in California. With a history of winemaking dating back to the 19th century, Sonoma's varied terroir allows it to grow grapes in multiple places throughout the region. Bordered by the Mayacamas Mountains on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west, the county encompasses a range of climates and soils. The Russian River Valley, known for its cool climate influenced by fog, is acclaimed for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Alexander Valley, further inland and warmer, excels with Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sonoma Coast, a region directly influenced by the Pacific's cool breezes and fog, is gaining recognition for elegant, cool-climate wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This diverse landscape provides the fruit for an array of styles.
