The Land:

The "Vette di San Leonardo" Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, an area characterized by the dramatic landscape of the Italian Dolomites. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 250-300 meters above sea level with a unique microclimate due to the influence of the Adige River Valley and the surrounding mountains. The soils are composed of limestone and gravel, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the minerality of the wine.

The Wine:

The 2023 vintage is a dry white wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Expect a wine with a complex aroma, featuring notes of passionfruit, citrus, elderflower, and a subtle herbaceousness. On the palate, it has a bright, fresh acidity, balanced by a rounded texture and a long, persistent finish with minerality. Fermented in stainless steel, it typically does not see oak.

The People:

Tenuta San Leonardo is a historic estate with a long tradition of winemaking. The estate is family-owned, and their focus is on producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines that showcase the unique character of their region. They are committed to sustainable practices, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The estate has a history dating back over 1000 years.

Sauvignon Blanc, a white grape of significant character, is believed to have originated in the Loire Valley of France, where it continues to produce some of the world’s most iconic and expressive examples. This variety has also found success in Bordeaux, where it is often blended with Sémillon, as well as in New Zealand, where it has become a signature grape, and many other regions across the globe. Known for its vibrant acidity and distinctive aromatic profile, Sauvignon Blanc often displays a pronounced greenness, with notes of fresh-cut grass, herbaceousness, and sometimes even a touch of jalapeño, depending on ripeness and region. These traits are often supported by citrus fruits like grapefruit and lime, leading to wines that are both refreshing and complex, ranging from steely and mineral-driven to more tropical and fruit-forward styles.
