  • Land: The Dolcetto d'Alba from Brezza is sourced from a prized vineyard in Barolo, planted in 1991. This south-west facing plot benefits from optimal sunlight for ripening and features soft, sandy soils that enhance drainage and contribute to the wine's aromatic profile and fruitiness, a notable distinction in a region where Dolcetto often takes a backseat to Nebbiolo.
  • Wine: The 2022 Dolcetto d'Alba is a reflection of Brezza's thoughtful approach to winemaking. After destemming, the grapes undergo a seven-day skin fermentation, followed by an eight-month aging period in concrete tanks. This process, coupled with an additional few months of bottle aging before release, results in a wine that balances freshness with complexity.
  • People: Under the guidance of Enzo Brezza, the fourth generation steward of the estate, Brezza has maintained its reputation for producing traditional Barolo and other varietals with a timeless elegance. Since his first vintage in 1989, Enzo has not only upheld the family's winemaking traditions but also embraced organic practices and innovative viticulture to enhance the health of their vineyards and the quality of their wines.

Nested in northwestern Italy, Piedmont is a region that oozes with charm and allure. Home to some of the world’s most highly regarded wines like Barolo and Barbaresco, Piedmont is a treasure trove of wine delights. The hilly region is planted to a host of local grapes, but it’s the noble Nebbiolo which takes center stage.

Piedmont

Dolcetto is a black grape variety native to the Piedmont region in northwest Italy, cherished for its ability to produce soft, fruit-forward red wines with relatively low acidity and a pleasing bitter finish. Known for its early ripening, Dolcetto yields wines that are typically deep in color, offering aromas of black cherry and licorice, making them highly approachable in their youth. The grape is most commonly associated with wines from Dogliani, Alba, and Asti, where the varietal's characteristics are celebrated in their purest form. While not as prestigious as Nebbiolo-based wines like Barolo and Barbaresco, Dolcetto holds a beloved place in Piedmontese wine culture for its straightforward, deliciously fruity profile and its versatility with food.
