Etna
Delicious and incredibly complex wines come from eastery Sicily’s Etna DOC. This region tends to produce wines with precision, finesse and purity. The thin skinned grape, Nerello Mascalese, is the star here and is grown directly on the slopes of the active Mount Etna volcano. The DOC covers 3 sides of the mountain, and the east is known for minerally whites while the north is known for perfumed reds and the south more powerful reds and whites. The wines are as charming and inviting as the local people, and challenge some of Northern Italy’s finest and most expensive wine regions.
