The Land
In the rugged, windswept hills of Patrimonio, on Corsica’s northern coast, Clos Signadore farms organically on a mix of limestone and schist soils that lend both lift and edge to the wines. This is a region of stark contrasts: intense Mediterranean sun meets cool maritime breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, creating a growing season that tempers ripeness with freshness. The vineyards sit inland, where the elevation and the maquis-scented air shape a wine that is unmistakably Corsican—wild, mineral, and precise. Le Clos Blanc is drawn from a single site that captures the full drama of this landscape.
The Wine
Made entirely from Vermentinu (known elsewhere as Vermentino), Le Clos Blanc 2023 is a study in tension and poise. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it showcases the grape’s purity: salted lemon peel, white peach, and crushed herbs, with a spine of citrus acidity and a stony, saline finish. There’s texture here too—a gentle grip, a kind of phenolic seriousness that gives the wine presence without ever feeling heavy. This is not a soft, round Mediterranean white; it’s intense, serious, and mineral—an island wine that carries the taste of wind, stone, and sun.
The People
Christophe Ferrandis, a Marseille native with Corsican roots, founded Clos Signadore in 2001 with a vision to return to the island’s raw, untouched beauty. Farming organically since day one, he has built a reputation for honesty and precision, letting the land speak through the native varieties of Niellucciu and Vermentinu. Le Clos Blanc is his only white wine, and it reflects his quiet conviction: no artifice, no shortcuts—just fruit, site, and time. In a region often overlooked for its whites, Christophe makes a compelling argument for their depth and ageability, without ever raising his voice.
