The Land:

Domaine du Pélican is redefining Jura with Burgundian precision. Based in Montigny-lès-Arsures, near Arbois, the estate benefits from the region’s distinctive marl soils and cool alpine-influenced climate—ideal for Savagnin. These conditions, coupled with meticulous organic and biodynamic farming, create wines of striking clarity and depth. Vin Jaune, Jura’s legendary oxidative wine, thrives here, aging under a veil of yeast (“sous voile”) that enhances complexity and structure.

The Wine:

Aged for over six years in neutral barrels without topping up, the 2016 Vin Jaune is a textbook expression of the style—intensely aromatic and layered. Classic notes of roasted nuts, dried apricot, curry spice, and preserved lemon unfold on a structured, saline-driven palate. The oxidative aging builds texture and depth while maintaining Jura’s hallmark vibrancy. This is a wine built for aging, with the potential to evolve for decades.

The People:

Domaine du Pélican is the Jura project of Guillaume d’Angerville, of Volnay’s famed Domaine Marquis d’Angerville. Drawn to the region’s untapped potential, he assembled vineyards from some of Jura’s most respected growers, applying Burgundian know-how to Jura’s indigenous varieties. The result is a lineup of precise, expressive wines that respect both tradition and terroir. Vin Jaune, the pinnacle of the estate’s work, is a testament to this philosophy—pure, focused, and deeply connected to Jura’s winemaking heritage.
